William O'Brien's descendants are closely linked to the Cruikshank family. His daughter Margaret Catherine O'Brien, married Alexander Cruikshank, son of Alexander who is referred to as "Cruickshank of the Gatineau". His granddaughter, Dora Anne Carroll married Alexander "Sandy" Cruikshank, son of George, son of Alexander "Cruickshank of the Gatineau".
